Paying it forward and helping the children in our community.


In 2004, MHA CEO Michael Herrera created the Michael Herrera Family Foundation in memory of his father, the late Fred Herrera, to support needy school-aged children.
The charity was founded on the simple belief of “paying it forward” through the allocation of resources and funds to change children’s lives in a positive way.
What started out as simply purchasing school supplies at the beginning of each school year has expanded to ten different programs.
The Michael Herrera Family Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization (Tax ID 46-2661399), efficiently uses it donations and ensures close to 100% of contributions go to the children.
A list of our major charitable programs is as follows:

Coats for Kids | Purchase up to 100 coats for elementary school-aged children in cold months of the year. |
Read to Success | Purchase over 1,500 books annually via Scholastic Literacy and distribute them to needy children. |
Start the Year Right | Purchase School Suppliers at the start of each school year for needy children. |
Rachel Herrera Scholarship | Provide $10,000 scholarship ($2,500 per year for 4 years) to deserving female entering college. |
Fred Herrera Scholarship | Provide $10,000 scholarship ($2,500 per year for 4 years) to deserving male entering college. |
Give Back | Kids participating in Michael Herrera Family Foundation give back to the community. |
Read to Lead | Give Nooks to Top Readers in elementary school. |
