Do you have a roadmap highlighting, by timeframe, what key deliverables and tasks you must complete over the year to raise the maturity and sophistication of your BCP program? In the majority of cases, we find most companies do not have this level of understanding of their program. Deliverables and tasks are completed in an ad hoc fashion with no rhyme or reason. This leads to little to no improvement in the program, inconsistent use of resources and higher risk for failure of initiatives.
At MHA, we always recommend that, at the beginning of your budget year, you create a quarter by quarter outline of the key deliverables and tasks to be completed for the BCP program. Take into account what can be realistically be completed each quarter, focusing on those deliverables that will bear the greatest return on investment by mitigating the most risk and raising the maturity and execution capabilities of your program.
We have found that management likes our one page snapshot of what will be accomplished over the year. It permits the BCP Office to focus on each quarter individually and ensure it is completing only the most critical tasks that will lead to a higher level of maturity and sophistication. Use the roadmap to filter out the most critical deliverables, don’t waste your time on non-productive tasks.
