What is your BCP program’s “EX” factor? “EX” is short for EXECUTIONand it is the key differentiator in all recovery programs. If your program does not have a high “EX” factor, your organization is exposed if you have an unplanned disruption. The “EX” factor is different from maturity. We see programs that have complied with key maturity components but can’t EXECUTE in the face of adversity. So, what components are key to the “EX” factor:
- People – Staff is stringently tested on a regular basis using well constructed exercises that are solely designed to raise the sophistication and maturity of the recovery capability. Staff demonstrates success on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Process – The process used to respond, recover and resume business is comprehensive, easy to use and your people effectively and repeatedly demonstrate its application on a regular basis.
- Practice – Practice doesn’t make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect! You must have the proper type of practice to heighten a program’s capability. Exercises must be developed in such a way that they build upon themselves over time heightening the capabilities of your people. You must practice like a world class athlete!
- Performance – The proper tools to measure your performance, identify gaps and heighten sophistication and maturity are in place and used on a regular basis to measure the ability to EXECUTE.
